I'm Val, an experienced Primary Teacher and tutor based in Alva, Clackmannanshire.
At Val’s Study Corner, learning is all about curiosity, confidence and a little bit of fun along the way. I understand that busy classrooms can often limit personalised support - that's where I step in.
I offer in-person primary tutoring for children from P1 to P7, carefully aligned with the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence. My tutoring is designed to complement classroom learning and support students' individual goals at their own pace. Every child is unique and that’s exactly how learning should be. I plan sessions to suit each child’s strengths, needs and pace.
Whether your child is finding certain areas tricky, needs a confidence boost, or simply wants to stretch themselves a little further, my sessions are designed to develop each child's full potential. I believe children learn best when they feel safe, relaxed and understood. Lessons are structured but flexible, using a mix of discussion, practical activities and hands-on learning to keep children engaged.
Building confidence is at the heart of everything I do. Many children who struggle with learning can start to feel frustrated or unsure of themselves. At Val’s Study Corner, mistakes are seen as part of learning, questions are always welcome and effort is celebrated. Over time children begin to trust their abilities, enjoy learning more and feel proud of their progress.
Val’s Study Corner welcomes all learners. I have experience adapting lessons to suit different learning styles and needs, always approaching each child with patience, kindness, and understanding. Every child is treated as an individual and supported with care and respect. I work closely with parents and carers to support learning beyond tutoring sessions. Weekly feedback is shared via email so you know how your child is progressing.
My aim is simple: to make learning feel positive, achievable and enjoyable — one step at a time.
